Recently, WHHITV's GIRL TALK visited Beaufort Memorial Hospital to speak to three generations of nurses about their experiences in honor of National Nurses Week, May 6-12, 2017. Yvonne Manuel, RN, joined her daughter Karen Carroll, RN, and granddaughter Lauren Carroll, RN, to discuss how the nursing profession has changed over the past 50 years.
Yvonne, who began her nursing career in the early 1960s as an LPN, recalled her one-year nursing education as a "sink-or-swim” experience while Lauren’s education as an ER nurse a few years ago was a highly specialized, multi-year learning experience. Karen Carroll, Beaufort Memorial Hospital’s Chief Nursing Officer, shared how she has seen evidence-based, best practices contribute to and advance patient care over the years. Another granddaughter, pharmacist Stephanie Carroll Whiteside, also chose a career of healthcare service like her grandmother, mother and sister.
Hear what they had to say when they joined Girl Talk host Debi Lyles.
